With a ticket to the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival, you have access to the festival from Friday to Sunday. At the festival site, you have access to saunas and wilderness hot tubs, as well as swimming both in the harbour and in open water from the pier. The ticket also gives you access to try saunagus, listen to music, group warm-up, a supermoon dip, nature and town walks in Ballen, community singing, and more. Also included in the price is a tote bag where you can store your personal belongings during the festival. Once you’ve bought a ticket to the Samsø Winter Swimming Festival, you can also purchase add-on access to yoga and meditation classes as well as talks. The programme is updated regularly here.
No, to take part in the yoga and meditation classes on offer, as well as talks, you need a ticket for the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival.
We have chosen to set a very low ticket price of DKK 350 + fee, which covers all three days.
This price is only possible thanks to funding from Samsø Municipality and the National Rural Districts Fund.
There are many places to stay on Samsø. For the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival, four accommodation providers have created special winter swimmer packages for festival participants. With a winter swimmer package, you get accommodation for the whole weekend, breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday evening, and plenty of opportunities to meet other winter swimmers. Please note that the winter swimming festival ticket is not included in the accommodation packages – it must be purchased separately. Read about the different winter bather packages here.
The festival area is located on the south pier at Ballen Marina. There will also be activities elsewhere in Ballen and around the island.
You can swim in Ballen Marina itself, which is a Blue Flag marina. Swimming takes place from a bathing jetty with both ladders and steps.
There is also a bathing jetty with steps from the south pier out into open water.
Finally, there is a lovely sandy beach right by the harbour, where you can also swim.
Yes, there are stalls with delicious, local food and drinks at the harbour. In addition, several of Ballen’s eateries are open during the weekend when the winter swimming festival takes place.
Yes, there are changing facilities at Ballen Harbour.
Yes, children aged 12 and up are welcome at the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival, but only when accompanied by an adult. On Sunday morning, winter swimming and sauna time are offered for children aged 8 and up and their parents. See the programme for details.
It’s up to you whether you wear swimwear when you swim or prefer to swim nude. Around the festival site and in the sauna, you are covered up.
No – but we offer a discount for SIKU members as well as members of the harbour’s winter sauna.
Samsø Winter Bathing Festival is organised by VisitSamsø and Sambiosen. There is also a development- and working group made up of local volunteers.
In connection with the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival, we need volunteers who can help with various practical tasks before, during and after the festival. As a volunteer, you will be part of a small, cosy team of volunteers. You get free access to the Samsø Winter Bathing Festival as well as a ticket to the festival dinner on Saturday evening.
